D-DAY / NORMANDY INVASION COMMEMORATION
June 6, 1944 – Operation Overlord, the code name for the long-awaited Allied invasion on German-occupied Northern France, began with overnight parachute and glider landings, massive air attacks and naval bombardments.
In the early morning, thousands of ships, tanks, planes, and troops crossed the English Channel and landed on the coast of France. The United States, United Kingdom and Canada led the assault phase with the help of allies from nine other countries after amphibious landings on five beaches code named Juno, Gold, Omaha, Utah and Sword.
The Battle of Normandy lasted until August 1944, leading to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control.
Join us to honor our D-Day veterans. In commemoration of this important day in American history, we pay homage to the service and sacrifice of these veterans and to the men who paid the ultimate price during the largest military invasion in world history.
