9th June 2016 | Winter Haven, Florida. It may have been storming outside, but within the Winter Haven Municipal Airport (KGIF) Terminal everyone was dry and happy and the air was charged, not with electrical eddies, but rather with palpable excitement. Judging of the Ridge Art Association’s 2016 Aviation & Flight Exhibition artwork entries was complete. Members, patrons, artists and city and facility officials were present to learn the names of those who had won ribbons and cash. It had not been easy for the judges to select the winners among the creative works, which consisted of productions representing various mediums. Photographs and oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings filled the walls.
Ridge Art Association Director Christy Hemenway was overseeing the festivities. Ms. Hemenway told J.R. Hafer that the Aviation & Flight Exhibition is an annual event. Ridge Art Association members are permitted to enter up to two pieces of originally produced art, neither of which may be more than two years old.
The evening was graced by the presence of Siobhan Gale of Lakeland, Florida, who is currently Miss Heart of Florida and will be competing (June 28-July 2) for the 2016 title of Miss Florida at the Lakeland Center.
Ms. Gale demonstrated her talent by performing several songs for the dozens of attendees. Afterward Siobhan posed with the “Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Air Force Floridians Memorial” display, which pays tribute to those residents of Florida who served with the respective services during the Second World War.
