30th November 2015 | Mount Hope, Ontario, Canada. For British and Commonwealth of Nations aviation history aficionados, the release of the DVD Reunion of Giants (the official Lancaster tour documentary) was welcome. The Avro Lancaster is legendary, as iconic to Bomber Command history as the Supermarine Spitfire is to Fighter Command. It was a special period of time when the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster VeRA sortied to the Mother country to tour with a sister.
Reunion of Giants does not disappoint viewers. Intertwined in the midst of interviews with Canadian Warplane Heritage and Royal Air Force (RAF) air and ground crews, and WWII Bomber Command veterans, are interior shots of the two Lancasters.
The aerial footage is spectacular. This reviewer’s heart jumped at the sight of VeRA passing above Beachy Head. It was simply marvellous! One sees the Avro preparing for the ferry flight at Hamilton, Ontario, VeRA‘s subsequent flight and arrival in Lincolnshire, England, and airborne display flights with her RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) sister Thumper. These are currently the only two flying Lancasters in the world. A special treat is film of the two Lancs flying alongside the last airworthy Avro Vulcan (XH558) and with BBMF Spitfires and Hurricanes.
Reunion of Giants, a product of Suddenly SeeMore. . . Productions, runs 83 minutes and is in colour. The audio format is PCM Stereo and 5.1 Surround sound. The NTSC Region Code is 0 (All Regions).
Reunion of Giants is exclusively distributed by and available through the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum (www.warplane.com). The Gift Shop may be contact at the following telephone number: 905-679-4183 Ext. 232.
