Monster Planes USA
Radio Control modeling is a very popular hobby, in fact, some enthusiasts call it a “sport”. At one time or another we have all seen a model or two flying around at a local club field. But, have you ever see an event for Professionally built Radio Control aircraft? Well, if not, your opportunity has arrived!
Monster Planes USA is coming to Lakeland October 24th thru the 26th. That’s a Thursday thru Saturday. Monster Planes will feature model aircraft larger you can imagine. I have seen several at a local workshop and was amazed at the size and detail. I’m guessing that approximately 80 enthusiasts will show up for this event, bringing over 100 large aircraft, to fly from morning to late afternoon every day. But the numbers are not what’s important; it’s the sheer size of these things! For example, one of the demonstration aircraft is a World War 2 bomber, a Boeing B-29, powered by 4 huge chain saw engines. It has a wingspan of 16 feet and weighs over 150 pounds!
There are several WW 2 fighters, averaging 9 feet in span, huge World War 1 Biplanes taller than a small child, aerobatic airplanes, Piper Cubs and the most incredible 10 foot long turbine powered jet aircraft you have ever seen. The jets reach speeds of 200 miles per hour!
Monster Planes is held at Paradise Field, an area of LakelandAirport. Entrance is on w. Pipkin Road, Gate 36, approximately 1 mile west of Hardon Blvd. The $10 admission fee includes Parking. Children 12 and under get in free. There are plenty of chairs provided or you may bring your own. Food and Hobby Vendors are on site. Coolers welcome! The action starts at 9 am and runs til about 4:30 pm all three days. Some very exciting demonstrations are put on throughout the day. This is fun for the entire family.
